How To Provide The Necessary Protection Around Your Swimming Pool.

In Australia, we are very fortunate that we have fantastic weather and because we enjoy many hot days throughout the year, it is every Australian homeowner’s dream to have their very own swimming pool in the backyard. If you have a few kids, then a swimming pool is the perfect way to bring the family together on the weekends, and it is a fantastic way to get everyone away from their phones and spending quality time together. As with everything in your family’s life, you want to keep them safe and even though your pool may have been built by someone who came highly recommended, there is only one way to be sure that your pool is safety compliant, and that is to contact your local pool certifying company.

Added Protection.

It isn’t just about making sure that the water in the swimming pool is safe to use, it’s also about making sure that the area around the pool is also safe. For example, if you are renting out your home and it has a pool, then you need to take the proper steps to protect your tenants, and this includes erecting a fence around your pool. This fence needs to be checked for safety compliance and the Australian government takes all of this very seriously. If you do have a swimming pool, it does have to be registered, so if you haven’t done that yet, you really need to get it done as soon as possible.

Additional Checks.

In order to get a full certificate in Sydney, there are a number of things that have to be checked to ensure that you are being compliant. The following are just some of the many things that they will check for, before issuing you with your safety pool certificate.

  • Height Restrictions – Your pool fence must be a minimum of 1200 mm high and the fence needs to be this height to stop kids getting entry to the pool area. It must not be more than 100 mm off the ground. The reasons for these restrictions are obvious. Small children can easily fit under a pool fence which allows them just enough space to slip through. The aforementioned rules make sure that the pool is too high for them to climb over and that there isn’t sufficient space along the bottom for them to climb through.

  • Restrict Access – It is important that there is no way for children to be able to climb up onto something, in order for them to be able to climb over your pool fence. This means that there can be no objects like tables and chairs and barbecue areas that will allow small children to climb on top of them, and get access to the swimming pool area. It is your job to make sure that there is no way that they can scale the fence.

The above are just a few of the many rules and regulations are in place to protect you, your family and your residents, that you may be renting your house out to. It is your job as a property owner to take the necessary steps to keep everyone safe at all times and in order to do that, you first need to apply for your pool safety certificate.
